Brian Anken - Founder & CEO

Brian Anken brings more than 25 years of coaching and leadership experience at the youth, high school and collegiate level. Anken currently serves as the Vice President of Athletics at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and co-founder of the Coaches Consulting Group.

 

Prior to St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, Anken served as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia. He served as the facilities and logistics coordinator for the athletic department and primary sport administrator for basketball and soccer. In addition, Anken served as a professor in the sports management department teaching sports psychology and intro to athletics courses. 

Anken arrived at D&E after five years as head lacrosse coach at the Virginia Military Institute.  During his tenure at VMI, he helped the Keydets record their first victory over a service academy in program history, defeating Air Force in 2014. Under his guidance, the first players in VMI history were drafted into Major League Lacrosse and 36 of his student-athletes entered military service after graduation. He also held administrative responsibilities within the athletic department coordinating logistics for all athletic and military training facilities.

Prior to VMI, Anken was the Director of Game Management and head lacrosse coach at Lycoming College (Pa.) for four years.  After posting a 4-10 record in his first year, his team went 10-6 in 2008, earning him Conference Coach of the Year honors.  Following with an 11-5 record and sharing the 2009 conference regular season title, and an 11-6 mark in 2010, his teams posted the best three-year conference record in program history (23-5).  His squads captured two NCAA team statistical champion awards, while two student-athletes earned individual statistical champion awards.   Four of Anken’s student-athletes have been inducted into the Lycoming College Hall of Fame and three have entered military service after graduation.

Anken began his head coaching career in 2004 at Mars Hill University (N.C.) and earned Deep South Conference Coach of the Year honors.  In 2006, he led the team to a 10-5 record and their first national ranking in program history.  He also recruited the program’s first freshman and conference player of the year and one United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-American.  Two of his student-athletes entered military service after graduation. After his first year on campus he was also promoted to oversee all game day operations and intramural programming.  He also served as an assistant coach at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Pfeiffer University.

Anken’s mentoring and commitment to developing future professionals has resulted in eleven former student athletes or staff members currently serving in a coaching or administrative roles at the collegiate level:

Committee involvement includes: NCAA Division 1 Championship Committee, NCAA Regional Advisory Committee, USILA Rankings Committee, USILA All American Committee, IMLCA Rules Committee.
